The city of a thousand lights does not lack hotels at the leading edge of elegance. The Ortaköy Hotel has added its name to the list, with a refined and intimate establishment in the heart of the lively district of Ortaköy. I had the opportunity to stay there and to appreciate its charm. Make sure you remember the name, because it is fast becoming one of the legendary hotels of the district. But for its having opened just before the coronavirus pandemic, you would already have heard of it.
The decor of this family hotel was devised by the owners and interior design professionals. Its 12 rooms, each one different, are an ode to the incredible elegance of the Turkish art of living. They are decorated with paintings representing Istanbul’s best-known districts, and antique objects. The sumptuous ceilings are entirely hand-painted, and the bathrooms are in marble.
My room, on the second floor, was a true fairy-tale palace, with its sunny balcony overlooking the Bosphorus. What more could one ask for? Perhaps just the superb breakfast that one can enjoy in one’s room or on the balcony! The staff, who are infinitely welcoming, are always ready to satisfy the wishes of the guests, with a big smile that you can make out behind the mask. Here, the team is meticulous in applying optimal health measures to ensure that your stay is a safe one.
Much more than a hotel, the Ortaköy Hotel is a living space, a moment out of time which offers direct access to culture, art and entertainment. Its privileged location allows you to move easily from discovery to discovery, to relax, to have new gourmet experiences and astonishing encounters, and to appreciate that life is really extremely pleasant beside the Bosphorus.
