The brain – an ultrasophisticated tool (intended for use)

The brain is an incredible tool. In an earlier post, we looked at programming the brain – changing your beliefs so as to change your reality.

The sceptics will say that’s just one of those absurd phrases intended to sell castles in the air. Think again! You can tame your subconscious, and feel better as a result.

Take control of your mind

Let’s do a quick neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) test. Close your eyes, think of a nice memory from the past, and intensify the colours. Your feelings should intensify along with the colours. If that doesn’t work, try to see it in black and white. This time your feelings should fade like the colours. You can also do the same exercise by increasing the light or making the remembered scene darker. It’s the same principle that Instagram uses to create filters. They instantaneously change our perceptions of a photo depending on its colours! This is only a very basic example of the simplicity and power of our brain. It should motivate you to move from negative thinking to positive thinking. After all, if colours and light can change what you feel about a memory, imagine the extent to which negative thinking can taint your perceptions.

The art of conscious creation

We tend to think that we are victims of circumstance, that our past experiences have traumatised us for life! If that’s the message you send to your subconscious, it’s very likely to become the case. After all, the subconscious doesn’t think about things; it just records what it’s told and acts accordingly. You are certainly not responsible for everything that happens to you, but you are a rational being, and you are responsible for the way you respond to events!

Three ways to create the life of your choice – thought, word and action

If you have decided that there’s no solution to your problem, you start the struggle with a handicap. Ask yourself this question – what advantage do I get from keeping my pain going? The way to create a new reality for yourself is to start by re-educating those beliefs and perceptions that are limiting and negative. Start by looking inwards – deep introspection can transform your perceptions. As an example, let’s take the way you see yourself. Is this is reality or illusion? Well, let’s imagine two photographers who both have the same artistic talent. Photographer A believes in his talent and says that his work is pure gold. Photographer B, however, has a more pessimistic approach. As a result, Photographer A fixes the price of his services according to the value he puts on them. This is a much higher rate than B’s, because B feels that things are tough, it’s a competitive marketplace, and if he sets his prices too high it will put off the customers. Guess who ends up with more prestige, puts in less work for the same service, and earns more money?

If you still don’t believe in the power of perception, here’s a practical example that you may recognise. You see an item in a shop window. Let’s say it costs 50.00 €. You think it’s not bad, but then as you get closer you see that the price is actually 5000 €. Unconsciously you will immediately see the item in a different light. Suddenly it looks much better. It’s the same with the way in which people see you. The “price” that you put on yourself will influence the way other people see you.

The first step is to change the way you think, and this may well prove to be the most difficult part. After that, what you do and say must fall into line with your new resolution. There are no miracles – you won’t find yourself standing on a podium next month if you resolve to get fit but spend all your time sitting on a sofa eating cakes! Believing in the possibility of change is an excellent start, but it must be reflected in what we say and do.

We can only advise you to start working on your perceptions of happiness, peace, abundance and love, and to have the courage to re-examine them. If they are negative, accentuate the positive and make a fresh start. There’s no need for advanced technology because you’re already equipped with the most sophisticated tool of all.

Belief is both the key to happiness and its worst enemy. The good news is that the choice is up to you!
